About

Cary Brown

My name is Cary Brown and I currently work as the Senior Director of Applications and Enterprise Architecture for WellMed Medical Management, Inc. which is the parent company for provider, payer, and transportation organizations primarily serving Medicare eligible seniors in TX, FL, OK, AR, and NM.  I’m also proud to be one of the founding members and current Board Member of the local San Antonio HIMSS (Health Information Management Systems Society) Chapter.  Prior to WellMed I worked as a Senior Consultant for Tower Strategies.  I’ve worked in health care and IT service management industries for the past 14 years assuming both IT and operational leadership positions with start-ups, mid-sized, and enterprise organizations including Baylor College of Medicine, Clarian Health System, Virginia Commonwealth University, and MD Anderson Cancer Center.

My primary experience and passion remains working with new technologies and more importantly applying them in such as way that can derive as much business value possible, which is a concept I think is lost on too many organizations that implement technology for technology’s sake and continue to operate within a vacuum of functionality .  While technology can add great value to an organization it is important to effectively evaluate existing business processes, end-user workflows, and develop short- and long-term strategic goals.  Some areas in which I’ve focused my efforts are:

  • Enterprise Architecture (Application & Infrastructure)
  • Strategic and tactical IT alignment
  • Program and project management
  • Business process re-engineering
  • Technology outsourcing strategies
  • Wireless and mobile device deployments
  • Web application development
  • Patient Portal Design
  • Enterprise network infrastructures
  • Network Security

Prior to joining Tower Strategies I served as the key technology and infrastructure lead for Conceptual MindWorks, Inc. where I was responsible for the design and operation a highly reliable and secure architecture for an ASP-based electronic medical record application called Sevocity. Prior to my work there, I was Director of Operations for a 10k sq. ft. Internet Data Center in San Antonio, TX providing 99.999% high-availability outsourced infrastructure facilities and a variety of managed services. Prior to joining Relera I served management and executive positions at HealthAnswers, Inc., a healthcare content and communications company out of Austin, TX that developed the consumer health portal healthanswers.com.

I enjoy the perspective of working in healthcare and for a company that operates both the provider and payor sides of healthcare.  I enjoy the satisfaction of using my experience to help organizations leverage technology in support of their business initiatives and strategic goals.  I’ve been graced with the opportunity to work with several large academic medical centers, providers, payer organizations, and with people who have similar goals for improving patient care and leveraging technology to improve business and clinical operations.
